Atari 8-Bit Game Play, Phantom
5In which I play "Phantom", published in 1987 by Tynesoft, and programmed by Brian Jobling. This game has good graphics, sound, music, and controls. The concept is also reasonably good. It has one glaring flaw, which sadly takes away almost all the fun. The player's only weapon, an energy beam, only occasionally kills the ghosts when it makes contact with them. Worse, there's no apparent reason why it does kill them, vs when it doesn't. Incredibly frustrating. The really puzzling thing about that is that it had to be obvious if there were much in the way of play-testing done.
If that were resolved, I think I'd be giving this one double-barreled up-thumbs.
