Welcome to the world of Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout. This highly acclaimed JRPG from developer Gust Co. Ltd. and publisher Koei Tecmo has been making waves in the gaming world, and now has two direct sequels.
Even with all of the buzz, I haven't checked it out nor have I played any other games in the Atelier series before now. So, this review comes from the perspective of a complete newbie to the franchise. However, in tackling this review, I completed the game 100% to make sure I could touch on all aspects of the game.
We'll start with the story and characters, which are a core focus of the experience. Next, we'll move to gameplay. This is a turn-based RPG with a strong focus on alchemy. Players must gather materials from the environment and use them to craft new items, weapons, and equipment that can be used to progress through the game's dungeons and battles. The combat is engaging and strategic, with a variety of different attacks and abilities to choose from.
The game's graphics and presentation are also worth mentioning. The character designs are gorgeous and unique, with a variety of customization options available. The environments are detailed and well-crafted, with a sense of depth and immersion that draws the player into the game's world.
