Gregory peck's first film appearance was "Days of Glory" in which he plays a heroic Russian Partisan behind Nazi lines. Presumably this was part of the state sponsored propaganda being churned out by Hollywood in support of the Soviet Union during World War 2.

Just 3 years later the US government's House Un-American Activities Committee would begin persecuting real and perceived supporters of communism in Hollywood. Gregory Peck did make his opposition to the committee's activities publicly known...a dangerous move at the time.
