There are plenty of new car-driver combinations for the American fans to enjoy - but one thing hasn't changed: on the basis of Friday's first two practice sessions, Mercedes still have a slight performance advantage over Red Bull-Honda. It's still early days, though - and Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas, whose fastest lap in the morning remained unbeaten in the afternoon, starts with yet another penalty - this time a five-place drop for switching to a new internal combustion unit. Peter Windsor, focusing on the challenges of Austin and on the all-important fuel runs in the afternoon session, analyses an intriguing day.
