For a couple of years now I've used a compass sensor to switch OpenBroadcaster scenes for me when I swing the microscope in/out for doing micro electronics repairs. One thing that's started to bother me now that I've created a more powerful ring light for the microscope is that I'd actually prefer if it turned itself off when I stowed it back ... and thus a new bodge-job project was born.

I've piggybacked off the existing software I wrote for the OBS switching system and made it fork off commands to switch a USB-controlled relay that physically switches the 24V power to the ring light.
