It's been in development for a few years, but last friday NASA announced that the Mars Helicopter Scout would be part of the Mars 2020 mission. It's a light 1kg autonomous drone which can fly for a few minutes each day providing high resolution terrain details.

While the atmosphere on Mars is thin, the gravity is lower and with big propellor blades the engineers have shown this can take to the skies just fine.
