Update 23rd May: During Sony/Playstation’s corporate strategy webcast, it was seen that the company see Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as a potentially partnered game and they had their logo on a screen with other new and upcoming games.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an upcoming AAA video game for PC and consoles in development for the Avatar franchise. The lead developer of the game is Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment studio, collaborating with Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Interactive.
This got many excited and there is hope that there will be come great exclusive content for Playstation consoles. Keep an eye on this page as we will provide official updates on this when it comes through.
Update 30th May: A leak has revealed that a brand new gameplay trailer for the Avatar game will be revealed at the upcoming Playstation State of Play event. This event takes place on Thursday 2nd June 2022.
Not much is known about the plot at present, but like the Wii/PSP and Nintendo DS games, focuses on a Na'vi lead character confronting Resources Development Administration encroachment. The story is a new, standalone installment featuring new characters. The game is set in the Western Frontier.
The game was not announced as a direct sequel to Ubisoft's James Cameron's Avatar: The Game or a direct movie tie-in game, but will expand on the Avatar universe in new and exciting ways alongside the upcoming sequel films.
After seeing a prototype run in Snowdrop, James Cameron and Lightstorm agreed to the game partnership. The announcement of the game, then known as the Avatar Project, was coordinated during the 2017 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California to help attract top talent to the Avatar Project development team. Ubisoft later clarified that Massive's Avatar Project development team was a dedicated team separate from Massive's development team for The Division. On August 8th, 2017, Massive announced Ubisoft Stockholm as a collaborator on the Avatar Project. On Ubisoft's official website for the game, Ubisoft Düsseldorf and Ubisoft Shanghai were listed as developers alongside Massive Entertainment.
Update:1st July 2022: Avatar Frontiers of Pandora will be released on November 18, 2022, according to a recent leak.
