In this video you will learn how I have tweaked Prepar3D by adjusting the affinity mask setting and the settings within Prepar3D. The key is not to mess about with the Prepar3D.cfg too much. I have only adjusted the affinity mask and the internal Prepar3D settings. I'm never running things on ultra, for me it is more important to have a smooth flying experience rather than too much eye candy.

HOW TO FIND THE PREPAR3D.CFG FILE
Go to the Search Windows, type %appdata% and open the Appdata folder that shows up. Then navigate to Roaming, Lockheed Martin, Prepar3D V3, Prepar3D.cfg. You can edit it using Notepad.
Or just go here: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3
HOW TO ADD AFFINITY MASK
By default, the affinity mask option is not present in the Prepar3D.cfg so you have to add it manually in the cfg file:
[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=85
(or any other value that you choose, this is mine in this example)
Check out this website for more information about Affinity Mask and for a Affinity Mask calculator. You can also decide, for example, to turn off Hyper Threading if that works better for you and if you don't need it anyways:
