Oh man... E3 is cancelled this year *noooooo* but that hasn't stopped all the games companies hosting their own conferences. Sony have just snuck out their latest showcase 2 - weeks earlier than all other games conferences, possibly in a strategic move to stand out and get ahead of the crowds of other games companies.
A Pretty good Showcase from Playstation and Sony. I'm going to start with talking about Final Fantasy, we do love Final Fantasy over here. We got a new trailer for Final Fantasy 16 which doesn't show too much new stuff. To be honest I'm glad we didn't see much because I feel like they've already revealed way too many spoilers in the trailers so far.. But they did show more of the Godzilla like Summon fights. A lot of people were predicting that a demo for 16 would be announced and it was not.
Also Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was not present at the Showcase, which might be a little surprising considering they're still pushing for a Winter release and we've seen very little so far. There's currently no plans for a Square Enix conference and this might support my prediction on Rebirth being delayed into next year.
Okay, there was quite a lot of cool stuff - my favourite new reveal was out of nowhere - Phantom Blade 0. At first I thought it might be Ghost of Tsushima 2 or I was getting very light Sekiro vibes. But it's this entirely new game Phantom Blade Zero from it's Bejing developers S-Game. It's looks like it might be a Souls like but from the developers it's sounds like it's going to be a bit faster paced and they're aiming for sleek and breath-taking combat inspired from Kung Fu movies from the 90's.
I think what made this really exciting was all the gameplay they showed. There was quite a lot new games revealed just entirely through a cinematic and I'm just left wondering, what genre of game even was that? It was just a cinematic. But Phantom Blade 0 was showing all the gameplay and it was blowing me away. It's coming to PC as well as Playstation.
The protaganist is cursed and he has only 66 days to live and I'm wondering if that is going to tie into gameplay in some way or if that's just going to be a story element. Phantom Blade Zero has my attention and I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more about this game.
Hey quick plug, I'm trying to grow the channel. I'm trying to reach 10,000 subs so any help would be greatly appreciated. Send me your energy -Thanks
Now another game revealed entirely through a cinematic was a very slow scrawl through a jungle swamp focusing in on all the wild life. I was just completely lost, what is this game? Is this Ants!? A bug's Life 2? Maybe Monster Hunter? But it's too realistic... And eventually in the darkness of the swamp... In camouflage... was Big Boss and I yelled out, "Metal Gear Solid 3!"
I know I was just complaining that some games didn't have any gameplay but a cinematic works for an already established series like this - We're getting a Remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. Now, doing Metal Gear Solid without Hideo Kojima might be crazy but the devs claim this is going be faithful to the original game - because they have pointed out that the triangle symbol in the title is Delta and it means change or difference without changing the structure. Sounds good to me, hopefully being a remake I'll be able to get this in my hands soon.
Something else I was really happy to see return was Dragon's Dogma with a sequel. I enjoyed the original Dragon's Dogma - it could be a bit janky but incredible when you're fighting huge monsters.
Capcom showed off the RE engine and it looks like making use of the environment is going to an even bigger part of gameplay with Dragon's Dogma II - I saw bridges being a destroyed as a trap and at another moment I saw a mage creating a magical bridge. So really interested to see how dynamic the world is this time and that kind of magic makes me wanna play a mage.
While this was revealed at the Playstation Showcase this is also coming to PC and Xbox. And one last thing - I hope they bring back that crazy main menu music they had in the original- that was awesome.
Now Alan Wake II was revealed too, Playstation claimed it was a gameplay reveal but there wasn't much of that. It was very much cinematic, in engine, and pre-scripted events. But it does look good. Something I don't really like is that Alan Wake II...
