Azure Striker Gunvolt - S+ Rank Run [Part 5]
This is the final part of my Azure Striker Gunvolt S+ rank run. Only Special Mission 5 remains: here, I’ll be fighting every boss in sequence, including the Azure Striker mirror-match with the true final boss, Asimov.
I'm unsure of the general consensus, but for my money, Gunvolt boss rushes are less than intriguing affairs. Bosses make for fine points of culmination—a test of nerves—in the more onerous stages, but when faced in sequence, the lack of melee combat and hit reactions sours things. Nonetheless, I engage in this one just fine, even recanting general usage of Septimal Surge and equipping the Broken Necklace instead of Overflash. Merak and Viper, the two I consider most deadly, are first and fifth respectively, so any failures incurred against them aren't felt harshly. Aside from that, it's by-the-numbers business, at least until facing off against Asimov.
Asimov's first phase is pure auto-pilot, so I use it to demonstrate the intended method of engaging him: landing tags during overheat and using the Flashfield while dodging his fire. At the start of phase 2 I immediately switch to Dullahan, showcasing its power in tandem with the Broken Necklace. Dealing 6 damage per shot, you can shred Asimov's health bar quickly while simplifying dodging during his now decidedly more deadly attack pattern; using the Flashfield here is inadvisable due to its descent-slowing effect. His Orochi equivalent is circumvented by a short hop in the corner, sure, but his Mizuchi pattern can be aggravating. To my knowledge, there exists no visual tell as to which marker his shots will bounce from. A brief audio cue arises at the moment of reflection, so perk your ears up and listen well, it may be your saving grace. I've not experimented with any fanciful dodging here as I have with Nova at Firmament, the method I employ is purely functional.
Dodging Voltaic Chains demands that you implement the genius strategy of standing next to Asimov, then dashing away to the blatant gap in the lattice. If this seems simple, that's because it is. I have faint recollections of this attack being more stringent in the 3DS version, though, unless you've got a penchant for the 3D effect, that version is entirely depreciated by virtue of its 30FPS cap, so it's a moot point.
