Baba Yetu - Civilization IV | Jazz Cover

A fitting song to end off the year, in my opinion. (Auld Lang Syne hehe)
2014 was a big year for me; I feel that my "voice" on YouTube has almost been fully developed. From releasing an album to working with friends on a bunch of projects, it's been a wild ride.
With the profits from said album, I was able to invest a few new audio supplies. My Scarlett 2i2 serves as a way to get input from my new microphone(s) into my DAW. I purchased the Blue Bluebird condenser mic in a bundle with the interface, but I decided that the microphone was not suited for saxophone, so I investigated and found another: the Cascade Fathead II. This ribbon mic is excellent for horns and brass, only needing a few minor touchups with EQ. Very happy with my purchases.
Have never played Civilization IV or any of the other games in the series for that matter, but I've heard many good things about them, and would like to try them out someday!
As for the mix, I went for the Joshua Redman "Freedom in the Groove" kind of vibe with this track, and I gotta say, it turned out pretty well. Took a while of tinkering with the Fathead to get it positioned just the way I wanted it to be, but in the end it turned out awesomely! I've been trying to keep my tracks at unity for most of the mixing process, and that's something I was able to do with this one. Only adjustments were some moderate automation on the saxophone track to keep it on top of the other instruments and a few automations on the rhyhtm section parts for some highlights.
Enjoy!
