I have never been even arguably good at FTL. Rougelike games are something that doesn't tend to tickle my brain as well as, say, complicated RPGs or character action/spectacle fighter games. There's often a sense of feeling like you can end up in situations where you're just completely boned long before you will actually fail the run. Also, while starting from square one isn't the worst thing in the world and you can learn and grow from failure, it's never something that immediately feels good. If I can learn from a mistake, I tend to handle failure a bit better, but I'm still not good at it.
That being said, the level of creativity and variety in this game is amazing and I do genuinely love the worldbuilding that is here. I don't spend much time appreciating it while I'm being dismantled by a drone ship while my crew flails around trying to fix a burning shield console, but still, it's good stuff.

FTL: Faster Than Light is the first game from Subset Games, originally released in 2012. Tasked with traveling through 8 sectors of an often hostile universe, FTL puts players in charge of managing the operations of a ship and its crew. The need to account for resources, repairs, crew health, and upgrades interlocks with the need to devise a strategy for conflict, with improvisation and the will to bravely run away from trouble being very useful skills. With the free 2014 Advanced Edition update adding more elements to the game, FTL is one of the densest "rougelite" games of its era, and helped to popularize the genre in the 21st century.
