Got this from a Humble Monthly release, which is good because I probably wouldn't have given it much of a chance otherwise. The mobile market has absolutely ruined the idea of pure autobattler games for me due to how predatory they usually are. Getting a chance to play a version of that outside of the exploitative mobile market shows off how much fun the concept and mechanics can actually be. It might not be quite as interesting to me as some other short games I've played the last year or so like Into the Breach or Hexarchy, but it was fun, and I have gone back and done some more runs since making this recording and that's actually a pretty good sign IMO.

Tales and Tactics is a blend of mobile game style autobattler and roguelike strategy released in 2024. Developed by Table 9 Studio, Tales and Tactics joins the catalog of video games that ask the question "what if we take a genuinely satisfying gameplay experience usually exploited by skinner box mobile gacha games and actually put in the work to make it fun without the predatory elements?" The answer to that question is that you get a very enjoyable experience that's easy to learn and quick to complete a run of when you have some time to kill.
