Backlog Resolution: Unreal (1998) Part 15 (Finale)
Here at the Source, we fight the final battle against the Skarrj Queen, using all our cunning and resources... or lobbing rockets like grenades and shooting her with a minigun while jumping high enough for Mario to acknowledge us. Unfortunately no stomping the little crawlers like Goombas, as it would slow down our escape and I also don't think that actually does damage.
Overall a nice, straightforward finish to a game that was mostly what I expected when the maps didn't turn into enormous mazes with inconsistent puzzles. We'll follow this up with Return to Na Pali ASAP.
Unreal was released by Epic Games in 1998, after years of development that gave rise to one of the most important games in video game history. The Unreal Engine developed for this game has continued to have successors that are at the core of so many modern video games that the engine has become more famous than its origin. While Unreal has sometimes been lost in the shuffle of 1998's legendary historical game releases, it may well have actually been the most important release of that year.
