Balloon Kid is a great expansion to the original "Balloon Fight", developed by Pax Softnica and published by Nintendo in the U.S. in 1990 and in Europe in 1991. Interestingly, this game was not released in Japan (despite Softnica being a Japanese video game developer) but was modified two years later and released for the Famicom under the title of "Hello Kitty World". Additionally, a cute Japan-only update to Balloon Kid, "Balloon Fight GB", was released for the Game Boy Color in 2000.

On the outskirts of the small town of Pencilvania lived a brother and sister, Jim and Alice, who loved balloons. They spent endless days filling the skies with balloons and making Pencilvania a more lively place to live. One day, Jim made his greatest balloon masterpiece -- a large rainbow made of different colored balloons. As the two were in awe of the sight, Jim, who was still attached to many of his balloons, was blown away by a strong wind. Alice, determined to save her brother, flies off to rescue him, which takes her on a great adventure.

The game is essentially the same as Balloon Fight, but the main game has been changed into a full-fledged platforming adventure game with scrolling movement, enemies, power-ups, secrets, and the ocassional boss battle. Alice has the ability to touch certain enemies and objects, run and jump on foot, and even the ability to dispatch her balloons at will and pump more if she needs to get airborne again. Also included for those looking for a challenge is the infamous "Balloon Trip", a rather difficult obstacle course that pushes your balloon control skills to the limit and ranks you based on how you do. The game features decent graphics for its time and new tunes as well as nicely-remixed Balloon Fight themes.

This is a simple video of the game that goes up to the first boss. Enjoy.
