El Monstruo de los Globos (also known as Balloon Monster) is an unlicensed NES game developed by NTDEC and distributed by Gluk Video. The game is heavily inspired by Buster Bros. (Pang), which itself was based on the 1983 MSX game Cannon Ball by Hudson Soft—later released on the ZX Spectrum as Bubble Buster. Six years after Cannon Ball's release, Mitchell Corporation licensed the concept to create Pang, refining and popularizing the gameplay mechanics.
Gameplay
Players control a character armed with a vertical-firing weapon, tasked with popping bouncing balloons before they overwhelm the screen. Large balloons split into smaller ones when hit, adding a strategic challenge. Unlike Buster Bros., which features power-ups and hidden items, El Monstruo de los Globos has a more streamlined gameplay experience focused purely on skill.
Features
→ Inspired by Cannon Ball and Bubble Buster: The game follows the mechanics of early MSX and ZX Spectrum versions, with a structure similar to Buster Bros.
→ 50 levels with looping gameplay: Players must progress through all 50 stages before the game resets.
→ No power-ups or hidden items: Unlike Buster Bros., the game relies solely on positioning and reflexes.
Unlicensed NES release: Distributed mainly in Spain and other European regions without official Nintendo approval.
While not as refined as Pang, El Monstruo de los Globos offers an interesting variation on the classic balloon-popping formula, staying true to the arcade challenge of its predecessors.
