Just a random thing I discovered. If you hold both left and right movement at the same time, Mario will dart to the right of the screen. I believe this is doable because the SNES controller didn't allow for holding opposite sides of the d-pad at the same time, so they likely didn't think of this. I believe it works by using the momentum from switching directions rapidly, causing a speed boost each time.
