Batman Returns (Sega Game Gear) Playthrough
0Batman Returns, another GG game that I really liked as a kid. It is similar to GG Shinobi games in a few ways, a lot of the times opponents need to actually attack you in order to cause damage, opponents just touching you doesn't necessarily mean you get hurt. You can't select different colored Batmans/ninjas here, but you can adjust the range/power of your Batarang that strikes at a medium range similar to Blue Shinobi's Chain attack. You have just one "ninpo" and that is a basic "cause damage to everything on the screen". But unlike in Shinobi, here you can grapple and swing freely on almost any ceiling. There is a stage select, but you can't really choose the order that you play through the first four stages, instead you choose between two routes which represent two different variations of a stage, route B usually being a little more challenging than route A.
It is quite different compared to 16-bit versions of Batman Returns, and Yuzo Koshiro is responsible for the music, he didn't actually compose this time, but he has done the mixing and producing resulting in another masterpiece GG OST.
Overall, the game is not as challenging as the GG Shinobi games, apparently the Master System version doesn't use a health bar, instead you die from a single hit/mistake, which sounds way harder, I'll probably check it out one of these days.
This is a complete playthrough played on Kega Fusion emulator, done by always selecting route 2, w/o using Batman's Special vehicle attack, including the ending & the credits.
