Battle Cars is a pretty good, little-known combat racing game utilizing Mode 7 graphics from Namco. The graphics are pretty good (though the view could have been a bit further) except in the hidden "Mystery Mode", where the game uses an overhead view with very crude visuals, though it is easier to control and play.

The game has a very simple flow structure which consists of Racing for money/credits to upgrade your car and weapons and then race a boss who must be beaten in order to advance.
