Staff Adepts are powerful basic units especially when they are fully upgraded. Their skill 'Dark Canopy' can be learned through the blessing of the crypt brothers and what it really does is protect their teammates with a magical veil that shields them from all range attacks.

The only disadvantage is that the caster is immobilized and is rendered vulnerable but the rest of the team can be protected from towers and all range units.

Watch this video and see how Dark Canopy can potentially be a tide-turner. Please note that I have trained mostly staff adept alone + some heroes and special unit just so I can showcase their strength at full upgrade.
