Another beat’em up game for OpenBor. This time, it’s a crossover game between Battletoads characters and Sketch Turner from Comix Zone video game. Yes, this sound ridiculous, but someone of the fans of these two games made this crossover, and I’m sharing it here.
The story of this game is very simple. The arch enemy of Battletoads named Dark Queen kidnapped their friend and leader named professor T.Bird, and Toads teamed up with Sketch Turner from Comix Zone, while he was presenting his comic book about Toads, to them, to rescue T.Bird, and thus the game starts.
Gameplay here is the same as in many other beat’em up games. You running around different locations, beating up different enemies and fighting with bosses in the end of each level. But, you allowed to do that for different characters, which you can select before you start the game. And you have playable characters like Battletoads themselves, which is Rash, Zitz and Pimple, then you have Sketch Turner from Comix Zone and, for some odd reason, you have some playable zombie dude.
The fighting system in this game are very easy, and the same goes for the controls. You have your movement buttons, attack button, jump button and a special move button. You walk up to enemy and press attack button to.. well, attack and if you get surrounded by the enemies, you press special attack button to do a special attack and throw enemies around. But, using a special attack comes in a coast of your health meter, so yeah, use it carefully otherwise you will waste all of your health.
Every playable character in this game have different moves and abilities, so no, they are not the same, despite different animations. They are really have different speed, strength of attack and stuff like that. The same goes for the levels, that is different too. There is not only a simple levels, where you walking from left to right, but also a levels where you ride a train on top of it, beating up enemies, or level where you go through it like a comic book, ripping it’s pages to move forward. You can also select a different episodes to play, that has different story and different enemies, thus it is not a short game.
And yes, there a 2 player mode in this game, thus you can play in local co-op with your friends.
In conclusion I’m gonna say that, this is one of a good beat’em up games on OpenBor engine. It is not a perfect one because, there is not much to do in this game, but only to beat up enemies and bosses, and watch some story cutscenes, but despite that, if you like beat’em up games, then you gonna like this one too.
