Battletoads Victory Run
My first time beating battletoads on March 24th 2014. This is a recording from the stream from acgamesonline that I requested.
Oh man was I not expecting to beat it, I only play it once in 2007ish with WellUnreal007, and played it recently on the 20th of March when Daniel Teixeira from A&C Games (sort of) challenged me to see how far I could get(Got to level 4) and fight the Dark Queen(with genie to warp to her fight).
Later when I got home I played the game some more about 1-2 hours trying to beat it and 4 days later holy crap I beat the whole game on stream live.
I plan on beating the game again to prove the tips and tricks I learned from playing helps, and making a guide to help/show other people/players how to beat the game themselves.
So I won't list my mindset/strategy here, but I'll leave some comments about each level.
Level 1: Ragnarok Canyon -
Being the first it's also the easiest level, really no one should fail or lose a life here.
Level 2: Wookie Hole - Quite the same as the first you really shouldn't fail or die here, this is thy place where you want to rack up some 1ups if you can by juggling birds.
Level 3: Turbo Tunnel - Ahh yes the level that stops most players in their tracks and for general good reasons; you either do it or you don't. I actually like the turbo tunnels now after figuring this part out especially with the timing. So I'll have some tips for this.
Level 4: Arctic Cavern - This level isn't difficult, but it's easy to screw up and die especially with the platforming. I don't hate/dislike this level it's just kind of neutral but the music is pretty damn sweet.
Level 5: Surf City - somewhat like the turbo tunnel but easier to work with. I really do enjoy these speederbike like segements, you really shouldn't have much troubles with this level, maybe the boss if you don't know the trick to beating him.
Level 6: Karnath's Lair - I don't like this level mainly because it's really slow that I just fall asleep everytime I get here. Starts out simple and gets harder as you proceed, but a few tries and you should get it.
Level 7: Volkmire's Inferno - I thought anyone calling this their favorite level is crazy, but I actually like it a lot too. This level is rather cheap when you get to the jet segments. But some trials & Errors will fix that.
Level 8: Intruder Excluder - This level foreshadows the hell of the last level with it's platforming. If you can't do this level then the last level will be hell for you, but compared to it this is pretty easy. Boss is fun as hell to fight.
Level 9: Terra Tubes - This level isn't that bad till you get to the second half and it starts to get bad. But some T&E will get you through.
Level 10: Rat Race - This will probably drive most players crazy(as it did to me on my stream) with the 3rd Rat Race. The 3rd race is a cheating bastard, worst part is I actually like it after failing a lot and causing my thumb to be sore, which isn't helpful when...
Level 11: Clinger Winger - ...We get to this level which demands more soreness from your thumb. I'll be honest I hate this level a lot because there are NO TIP or TRICKS you can use to help. You either do it or you don't but I might have some suggestions to help relieve the stress of this level.
Level 12: The Revolution - This level is deceptively hard to beat. So many ways to accidentally die here.
Level 13: Armageddon - This boss fight is fun if cheap when you get caught.
