Before we start, I used to hate this game. My final score was 3.5/10. This guy said exactly what I thought - https://youtu.be/hrhSAqb2B1k
And now... Read below.
This playthrough is multipurpose:
1. I tried Yuzu instead of Ryujinx I was playing before. Results - Yuzu is a lot better, smoother, but game crashed 2 times (both in part 2, both crashes are tied to leaving Niflheim) and there are no fog textures, even though it still hurts you.
2. I tryed looking on this game as casual play who doesn't really care about final results and probably will never try NSIC difficulty. After going through 5 stages of grief and finally dealing with the fact Bayo3 was not and will never be released (yes, this is Astral chain 2, not Bayonetta 3. Period) - this game is not so bad. When you don't care about taking damage in bullshit gimmick sections it makes everything better, since you take almost no damage even on expert difficulty. And even if you die, there is no penalty for dying. Yet some Niflheims are war crimes. It is especially strange, because for NSIC (supposedly more difficult mode) they made challenges EASIER! Not to get pure platinum, just to finish them. Wartrain challenge is a lot easier on NSIC, there are only 1 Viola's witch time challenge on NSIC, weird Gomorrah, Madama butterly and Baal challenges are all replaced, etc. In the end, I HAD FUN! I ENJOYED THIS PLAYTHROUGH!
3. I checked PP requirements for expert difficulty. While some fights are fine even while being handicapped by using specific weapon and demon, some are terribly balanced. One fight during final credits literally can be PPed ONLY by doing CMW's spin2win.
4. I wanted to try every weapon in the game. Sadly, Cruel altea (Labolas) and Rodin couldn't see real use (even though you will see them in chapter 13 and 14, but I wasn't satisfied because of testing field). As a result -
a) I changed my mind about G-pillar (Gomorrah) and Anchor (Kraken) - this is not as bad weapons, as I thought. You can use them effectively outside NSIC. NSIC is purely meta-oriented and has nothing to do with fun.
b) Trainsaw is... weird. It's quite bad on paper, but actually quite decent.
c) Alruna is fun, but something feels off.
d) Fans (Malphas) are quite bad because its wicked weaves attacks has too long animation, while weapon itself supposed to be fast.
e) Microphone (Baal) is mid. Some attacks are decent, some are terrible, but overall this weapon has quite big range AND it can be blocked by enemies, ending your combo, forcing you to aviod using it in some fights.
f) Yo-yo (Phantasmaraneae) is amazing. It has high DPS, can be used in mid (punch) and close (kick) range, but it is hard to mix both in combos, because punches can miss, realignment sucks. It is flawed top tier.
g) CMW (Madama Butterly/Styx) is still the worst guns out of 3, but it has spin2win move. It's OP (move, not guns), but not fun at all.
h) Tartarus (clock tower) turned out to be the worst weapon in the game: slow af, short range, clanky moveset, awful shoot button. But it still has niche use in Rodin fight for triggering uppercut loop.
i) Abracadabra is fun af + really strong. It's sad I couldn't see it earlier.
j) Cruel altea (Labolas) has some potential, but I didn't test it enough. And still I can see it is completely useless against blocking enemies. But its PPKP being fast, long range uppercut slave wink ender is high tier.
k) Rodin... I didn't test it in actual gameplay (it will be in chapter 14 - which has only singularity fight), but you already know that with Umbran clock tower it is the best cheese weapon.
NOT A TIER LIST: the best weapons are Abracadabra and Scarborough fair, followed by CMW, followed by Yo-yo. By far the worst - Tartarus (we don't count Handguns. Btw platinum games finally made them Crapgun), followed by slow trio - Hammer, Anchor and Trainsaw.
