It's time to finally hit up Europe--Paris, in fact!

While Viola continues to search for Luka and keep him safe, she ends up meeting a parallel version of him named Lukaon. He realizes there's a connection between himself and Viola, but before she can say the words, he's off to answer a voice.

And then she runs into our Luka and tries fighting him again. So much for that.

Meanwhile, Bayonetta senses that something's going on with Viola. First, though, I guess I can talk about the new weapons.

The Ribbit Libido Z55 is a microphone stand that's also a spear, inherited from Egyptian Jeanne. It's not that powerful, as far as weapons go, but what really sets it apart from anything else in the game is that holding the punch button gives you a defense buff, and holding the kick button gives you an attack buff. You can repeat it to extend the duration, and you can switch to another weapon to take advantage of it. The Demon Masquerade form is pretty frog-like, and you can get an extra jump in midair.

Simoon is the set of fans from Egyptian Bayonetta. They're quick and agile, and unsurprisingly, they do a lot with razor-sharp blades of wind. Compared to the other new weapon, it feels a lot easier to get a lot out of them. The Demon Masquerade form doesn't give you any extra height, but it lets you glide really really far with very slow altitude loss.

The vision Bayonetta sees is that of French Bayonetta and her mother Rosa, apparently a duo of phantom thieves who are after the Chaos Gear. They manage to escape from Inspector Enzeau, but they got separated. French Bayonetta sends her demon, Mictlantecuhtli, to track them down, and that means we have a new partner.

Mictlantecuhtli is actually a two-in-one demon that can shift between two formations. The one that stands out more is Formation X, which also comes with an echolocation ability, great for seeing in the dark. With his help, we're able to catch up to Rosa, who's fighting some homunculus forces.

...Unfortunately, by the time we reach her, it seems she's been possessed by them, and we have to duke it out. As the fight goes on, the possession only grows stronger, and we have to deal with her and her weapon Tartarus, her demon partner Umbran Clock Tower, and even her Demon Masquerade form. In defeating her, we have no choice but to put her out of her misery, but before we can claim the Chaos Gear for our own, Mictlantecuhtli takes it himself and brings it to French Bayonetta.

But hey, we get the Tartarus, and I kinda dig it as a "slow, heavy weapon" because it's not all that slow. Maybe it's not as strong or as combo-oriented as I would like, but I think that's just the price to pay for its defensive abilities. The Demon Masquerade is a marionette, and its special movement is a hover that maintains your height for a fairly long time. You can't cover as much distance as with Simoon, but if keeping your height is important, this is one way to do it.

Meanwhile, the Umbran Clock Tower is very... unique as a demon. When you summon it, it's stationary. You can turn it around, but that's about it. Each button activates a different segment of the tower for attacking. However, if you're not into that, the "special move" summons one of those mech armor units from Bayo 2. That's a much more conventional alternative, I think.

Anyway, it turns out Singularity can possess humans to turn them into enemies, and I'm really surprised there wasn't an achievement for running past them without killing them. When we catch up to French Bayonetta, it seems she wants a fight, and who can blame her? As far as she's concerned, we just killed her maman, and that's not very friendly.

But after our battle, Singularity comes along and manages to possess French Bayonetta, and it's time for Baal to take the stage as Baal Zebul. Like every other end-of-area battle, this isn't a straight fight. It's like... Remember the fight against Undyne in Undertale, where she's throwing spears at you and you have to move your shield to block them? It's like that. All you have to do is move a magic barrier between three locations while Baal Zebul sings. I'm not even sure it's possible to lose here, though I don't intend to try.

In the end, the song just obliterates the parasites, including the one possessing French Bayonetta... and French Bayonetta as well. With that, we now have the fifth Chaos Gear, which means all we need is Dr. Sigurd to help us make a wish and save the multiverse!

Tune in next time for the finale!
