In Beast, a game of hidden movement and deduction, one or two players takes the role of Beasts; strange but godlike creatures of a long forgotten age, angry and spiteful of the invading humans. On the opposing team, up to four players take control over special Hunters, attempting to hunt and kill the Beasts before too many settlers are devoured. There is no good or evil here, only two sides caught in a gruesome conflict regarding who the New Lands truly belong to - mankind, or the creatures of the wild.

Beast uses a deck of direction cards to move over forests, swamps and caverns alike, using guile and deceit to hide its’ track from the hunters. However, whenever a Hunter moves over a location where the Beast has previously been, a trail appears. Only when a hunter searches or a Beasts attacks a unsuspecting target does the Beast emerge from the shadows. More so, each Hunter has but one chance of searching each round, making it a tense and difficult decision. Hunters seldom have full information whether the trail they’re searching might contain the Beasts actual location, or if the trail has already gone cold.

Each day, Hunters and Beasts take turns playing up to two cards from their hand, meaning that if a player wants to move, search or attack, they need to have a card with that effect in hand. Before each round, players draft cards between Beasts and Hunters which then is combined with an array of abilities, items and traps.
Hunters are tasked with the objective of tracking the Beast down, using their knowledge of the six different Beasts unique abilities and preferred habitats, as well as their collective cunning to track and find the trails that the Beast leaves behind. Hunting Beasts is no easy feat as each night the Beast grows stronger, using the power it draws from its’ victims to unlock powerful upgrades and summon foul creatures. Only those who cooperate and use their special set of skills to the fullest have any chance of success.
