A bit late, but here's my animation highlights from 2021!
This was another shitty year for a lot of people, including myself. So this year, animation was about more than just being visually pleasing. It was about bringing a little bit of hope into our lives.
Gamers were crying all across the board when Sora dropped, the Chainsaw Man teaser had all of us creaming our jeans, and when I saw Kirby in that Nintendo Direct?? Oh my god. He really did that for us.
There was also a plethora of representation in animation this year. Encanto brought us beautiful Hispanic visuals and music, The Owl House provided amazing LGBTQ+ characters, and Demon Slayer shone a light on healthy polyamorous relationships.
So here's hoping that 2022 will be a little easier on all of us, and that we can continue to appreciate gorgeous animation when it comes our way.
