I take you down the first steps toward the eternal Dungeons and Dragons spiral of insanity.

Basic information provided:
Get the Player's Handbook I
This goes for any tabletop RPG you want to play, and read it, everything is there. For some games it is called the Rule Book, Core Rules, Core Book, and so on and so forth. If it says rules, core, or player's handbook, then you are usually set (be wary of Advanced versions, they are extensions, not replacements)
d20srd.org
3.5 srd super site, best free legal way to quickly look up anything D&D3.5 core easily. Do note that only general SRD and OGL is there, and is a little less entertaining to read than Player's Handbook
Pathguy
Has a 3.5e 4e and pathfinder character generator. Nice for fun, but try not to use it too often as has little to no information on some of the feats and abilities, and can lead to frustrations hand building does not have.
