Behind the Magic of Enola Holmes 2
Enola Holmes 2 did the impossible. It made a sequel worth its salt. Latching onto the real history of the Matchgirls strike of 1888 was a brilliant move for a feminist detective movie, but there’s so much more to it that makes it so awesome and a lot of that is the chemistry between the cast. Millie makes friends wherever she goes, and that comes in two forms, either teasing them like she did with Henry Cavill or having little dance parties, like she did with Serrana Su-Ling Bliss and Abbie Hern. There was plenty of goofy stuff going on too. Like bunnies in strollers and skateboarding incidents. It all makes this set seem like a fun place to be. But something that wasn’t too fun by the sounds of it was Enola and Tewkesbery’s kiss, because as Louis Partridge said, Millie had been scarfing down food right before it! And Millie was more than happy to beat Louis up instead. Of course, Millie is a producer of the movie so we exaggerate! Or, she exaggerates. We’re just quoting her! She also had a ton of influence over all of the design choices. Enola’s hair is intentionally period inaccurate. As they were trying to explore with her character, Enola cares about action, not hair! That prison breakout scene was seriously awesome, if not cold on set. Climbing drain pipes can be fun, it can also be dangerous so take your precautions! And creating Sherlock’s apartment proved to be a difficult challenge for the designers. What a weird, weird set to work on!
