Bells & Whistles, 1991 Konami
AKA Detana!! TwinBee. Cute sort of re-make of the original TWINBEE, this version has by now made Light and Pastel the pilots of the Twinbee and Winbee, and Mint the passenger of the green Bee (Gwinbee). As in the original, you shoot giant bells from behind clouds to turn them into colored bells (power-ups). Catching a falling bell at these colors gets you the following: YELLOW-- Bonus points (and more caught without a miss gives you a higher bonus up to 10,000-- this is the default bell color). GREEN-- Shadow bees, which are like "Option" bees. RED-- Very helpful shield that lasts for a handful of hits. SILVER-- Double shot. BLUE-- Speed up. BLACK-- Speed DOWN (new to the Twinbee franchise). PURPLE-- Tail Shield. You can also get helpful items from the ground enemies you can bomb-- and unlike TwinBee, here you can shoot and bomb with the same button (and you can lose your bombing arms like in Twinbee, and recover them with an "air ambulance"). You can also get help from Gwinbee from a ground icon, which increases your firepower if you touch it. It will disappear when shot/touched by an enemy, and will float off if you die (but can be re-collected if you're quick on your next life). Also new to the series is the ability to get a complimentary power-up when you continue-- this is usually a shield, maybe with 3-way shot (the latter of which you can also acquire via a bell ground target prize). Bosses can range from very easy to very difficult, and you fight through 7 stages to save a princess from evil forces besetting her planet. Cute anime-styled cut-scenes and charming graphics and music make this better than just any old remake. Requested by YouTube user RealMasterOrder.
