Interesting mix of racing game/shoot 'em up involving 8 different characters vying to cross the finish line first; along the way they must contend with several flying foes trying to shoot them down. You can't shoot down your racing competitors (nor can they to you), but using the BOMB (2nd button) will definitely put some distance between you and them! A boss enemy will appear shortly before the finish line (and there's a few smaller enemies you usually must face before crossing the goal), which requires several shots to take down. One great thing about this game-- running into an enemy won't kill you! In fact, this can hurt the enemy fairly often. This game does fall into the bullet hell/manic shooter trappings, with bullets flying all over the place. Weapon upgrades are achieved by shooting various targets flying about, and catching the icons that fall (like a giant "F" for fire increase, or "H" for homing). You can also get points for coins dropped by said flying creatures. You don't have to get first place every time; you can still beat the game. However; if you fail to finish first on the last race (your choice of Kingdom Grand Prix, Yashiki Of Ninja, or Kobold's Tower), you will get an alternate (though not usually bad) ending. The order of levels are always: 1) start in Basalna City, 2) Choose from Air Circus or Velmatic Ocean, 3) choose from Outcast Castle or Cross Fire, 4) choose from Deeply Dungeon or Cold Corridor, 5) choose from Strato Storm or Forest Of Dead, 6) choose from the final stage-- either Kingdom Grand Prix, Yashiki Of Nina, or Kobold's Tower. Interesting hybrid of "shmup" and racing game, with a strong emphasis on anime-styled characters. Requested by Joey Ford.
