Hogwarts
Hat-stall: When the sorting hat is torn between 2 houses for a student and takes longer than 5 minutes to decide.
Gryffindor: Nerve, Friendship, Courage, Chivalry
Ravenclaw: Creativity, Knowledge, Intelligence, Wit
Hufflepuff: Hard Work, Loyalty, Justice, Kindness
Slytherin: Craftiness, Ambition, Cunning, Shrewdness

Statues: Unlike Hogwarts who has a sorting hat, the Wizarding School of North America has four statues representing each of their four houses. The student walks to the center of the four (all of which have their backs turned upon the student) and whichever turns to the student is the appointed house as the house the statue represents sees traits in the student that they want. However, if more than one statue turns, the student may decide which they go to. Once every decade or so, all four turn to a student. (Source: Pottermore.com) Each of the houses represents a part of a being (soul, heart, mind, body)/types of personalities or professions (adventurous, healer, scholar, warrior)
