Besides Gaming 2009: Music

I listen to music like any normal human being. I currently have around 5,00 songs on my hard drive. Everything from anime, video game, j-pop, rap, light, heavy, classic rock, alternative, and even some county music can be found there. Most of the time I just use winamp on my music folder and play it all. That way it's totally random and I just shuffle though the deluge letting whatever music fits my mood play out. I would now like to take a moment and list some of the tracks that I added to that collection in 2009.

Billboard Top 100
So right off the bat I will admit that I'm not a huge pop music fan. If a song gets me bobbing my head while driving and later gets stuck in my head, not in a bad way, then the song is good in my book. At the end of the year I took at look at the Billboard Top 100 and decided to see which ones I could remember. It turns out I liked a good chuck of them. I have read somewhere that in depressing times songs with solid four beat rhythms thrive more than their counterparts. So hit the links is this paragraph if you are interested in what songs I submitted to.

Katy Perry - One Of The Boys
The first song off this album I heard was Hot N Cold, in simish. I found that song rather catchy. Later on when I hear the real version and I Kissed a Girl, I figured I would give the whole album a try. I found her songs to have the a typical jaded female angst. It was her extended wailing singing style that I found myself liking. Then after I heard Ur So Gay and Waking Up In Vegas I was sold on making the album part of my collection. Granted she is not for everyone but I have also swayed toward the Alanises, Fionas, Imbruglias, and Avrils of the music industry.

Lady GaGa - The Fame
Now I haven't been in the club scene since well, ever. But after hearing Just Dance and Poker Face I knew this album would be going into my collection. Her songs, while nothing really great, embody the beat and vibe of just chilling and nodding your head. Listening to the album gave me visions of myself busting out some sweet dance moves while cruising the club. Well at the very least I know I can freestyle the hell out of some Dance Dance Revolution when the time comes.

Kanye West - 808sNHeartbreak
Ok just focus on the music and not the dude. Ok, so the music is extremely auto-tuned but just focus on the beats. There you go. After hearing his normal radio plays I was intrigued by his sound. It wasn't until Amazing that I really decided to listen to the whole album. This is a solid album that I have no qualms listening to all the way through. Pulling back and thinking, I find that the songs somehow remind me of the Blues. The album just seems to be dismal and gloomy. As a reminder music isn't really my forte.

Girl Talk - Feed The Animals
I first heard about the album on NPR a long time ago because of its heavy use of sampling. Basically the songs are mostly rap vocals with a ton of various sampling from all genres in the background. It wasn't until Graham from LoadingReadyRun mentioned the album that I really took notice. Now I have always loved it when I hear songs being mixed together. When I first listened to this album I found I couldn't do anything else. I was constantly trying to figure out what songs the lyrics and beats where from. I find that's its one addictive album because each song can easily transition to the next. The songs also seem to stick in my head for a very long time. Its really hard to describe it, so just hit up the video from an example. If I had to pick my favorite album I listened to in 2009 this would be it.
