Die Preisverleihung fand im IGN@gamescom now studio statt. Mehr als 160 Einreichungen waren beim Awardbüro eingegangen, das auch in diesem Jahr von der Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur geleitet wurde. Bereits am Montag wurden die ersten Gewinner des gamescom awards in zahlreichen Jury-Kategorien im Rahmen der gamescom: Opening Night Live bekannt gegeben.
