Here we have some earlier versions of some of the game's various menu screens. Unfortunately, the entire bundle itself is not fully functional in the retail build of the game, but by importing parts of it into the final version's bundles, we can take a look at some of these screens.

The actual setting of a control room in a sub next to Godzilla was already decided upon at this stage of development (according to the file dates, this build must've been dated around January 28th, 2004 at 8:08 PM) and is pretty similar to what we got besides the lighting which is likely rendered accurately by the XEMU emulator. One thing I did notice is that Godzilla has ears in this version of the title screen. They seem to have removed them in the retail releases... not really sure why they did that. The suit the model is based on has ears. The menu items themselves are way different though. We have several story mode missions including "Misson 10", "Mission 2", and "Armageddon" (more on those later...). There's also an item called "BonusGames" which is interesting since it's separate from Challenges. There was also a Monster Bios feature, which I guess would have been similar to what we got in Godzilla PS4. One other interesting option is "walkabout", which I speculate could have been a type of free roam option since Simon Strange had mentioned that they were playing around with a GTA-like free roam concept for a while. They concluded that it was boring since only enemy monsters would actually pose any real threat to the player. You can read more on that here: https://www.tohokingdom.com/vg/gste/interview.htm It's a great interview that provides a lot of insight into the game's development and cut features, and it was what inspired me to start modding the game in the first place (I wanted to see Biollante!).

Next up, we have the Monster Select screen. It doesn't respond to input (likely something to do with the fact that the script cannot be parsed by the game), and it is fairly similar to the screen seen in the final release. The main point of interest is the fact that there are two extra icons present in the roster which are Biollante and a Random button! I've tried restoring the Random button into the game, but so far, it just crashes while loading, so I guess they broke it somehow (or the new script isn't set up to handle the feature). It seems that they cut the Random feature in order to keep an even number of icons on the screen after Biollante was cut, but this may not be true since Simon Strange had mentioned that there were plans to make Biollante selectable by holding the L trigger while selecting Godzilla. Evidently, however, that wasn't the original plan. The mockups of the character select screen aren't all that great. It was really just an excuse to show off the old renders I found. Since they would have been used on this screen, I figured this was a good place to showcase them. My favorite beta render is MOGUERA's.

Next, we have a beta City Select screen. This one is pretty boring, and there's not much to say. There's no visuals like the final version. It's all just a bunch of text.

Finally, there's the beta Challenge menu, which personally, I like more... well, the concept of it anyway. The images are missing, but it is clear that they were going to have an image preview of each challenge which is pretty nice. Overall, it's mostly the same design otherwise. We can also see a challenge that was removed from the game called "DESTROY THE BUILDING" or "THROW STUFF" where you would have to destroy five designated buildings before the time ran out. Judging from the filename, this challenge became the San Francisco destruction challenge, so I guess technically it wasn't really removed but heavily changed. There's also some different text for each of the challenges that do exist in the retail release. Also, the music is an absolute mess during gameplay, and you cannot press X/A to skip past the end results lol
