Betelgeuse is a red supergiant star located approximately 640 light years from Earth in the constellation Orion. It is one of the brightest and most well-known stars in the night sky, and has long been a subject of fascination for astronomers and skywatchers. In recent years, Betelgeuse has garnered even more attention due to speculation that it may be on the verge of a supernova explosion. A supernova is a catastrophic event that occurs when a star collapses and explodes, releasing an enormous amount of energy and light.
