Beyond Earth in Retrospective
8OK, much happier with this take.
So I guess I should draw a conclusion here. Beyond Earth was a definite step up compared to Civ 5. The minor changes really change how some of the most problematic aspects of former civ games worked, that being the comparatively lackluster exploration and extermination phases of the game.
However as a reminder, it is a Civ game. If that isn't your cup of tea, this one won't be either.
