Trixie's bossy ...friend(?) Nikita has given her an ultimatum. Either find a copy of the cursed play The King in Yellow, or don't expect her to do any of her coursework for her.
Given Trixie's grades and inability to say no to others, the choice is obvious. Suspecting the play to be found somewhere at Daffodil lane after a single page was recovered, Trixie heads back to that fated spot from Parsnip where most of the old group is still around. I mean, Squirrel girl and her parents have been missing long enough that the police got involved, and the magnificent magpie is also nowhere to be seen, but her new best friend Parsnip is still there, as is his alcoholic neighbor Le Rose.
In this VN, players get to guide Trixie, picking from the occasional dialog prompt, and deciding which of her newfound acquaintances to help out with cake baking, inventory counting, and delivering milk. The game has a good sense of humor, and Trixie can be a little depressingly relatable at times.
Upon discovering the play and delivering it to Nikita, the trouble is just beginning as she suspects the stories about the play may be true, and her and her friends may be in danger here. Or perhaps Nikita's theory that she inhaled too many mold spores and merely hallucinated the talking skulls is correct. Who can say!
