BIG PROBLEM with StepManiaX Dance Machines | FSR Design Causing Unreliable Inputs
We tried to play StepManiaX at an arcade, but the pad design made it nearly impossible to enjoy. The FSR sensors had terrible resting values, constantly misfiring and dropping steps, even on easy charts. This created a very poor user expeirence.
\nLuckily, there was somebody smarter than me was able to explain why there are so many issues with these pads. In the video, Cesar talks about some of the design issues and FSR implementation issues that all StepManiaX arcade cabients seem to have.
\n
\nNow, this is something you may not notice out of the box, as it's only apparent after some use of the machine. Buying a machine, or pad, gives you only a 30 day window to return the product if you have any issues. This is a very small timeframe and 30 days doesn't give this flaw time to produce itself. It seems they decided to use, what looks like, a window sealer as a cushion for some very small FSR sensor points. As you can see in the video, this tears open the window seal with few hours of playtime.
\n
\nAs a result, you can see the entire machine has poor FSR resting state. This may not really affect the casual gamer, but certainly, any semi-skilled player would be very annoyed with this.
