Bill & Ted Face the Music Director Dean Parisot Reveals How Steven Soderbergh Helped Get Sequel Made
With Bill & Ted Face the Music being released on demand and in theaters on August 28, I recently spoke with director Dean Parisot about making the long awaited sequel. During the interview, he talked about why it was a miracle Bill & Ted 3 got made, how Steven Soderbergh was involved in the sequel, all the favors they pulled to help made the movie look awesome, how the pandemic helped them to create a better ending, and so much more.
In Bill & Ted Face the Music, William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Keanu Reeves) have reached middle age without having fulfilled their rock and roll destiny. As the universe starts falling apart, the best friends must find a way to write the song that has eluded them for decades. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters (Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine) a few music legends, and a new batch of historical figures. Written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, Bill & Ted Face the Music also stars Kid Cudi, Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr. and Amy Stoch.
Dean Parisot:
• How did the script get adjusted to fit into the budget?
• How everyone worked on the script for free hoping they could eventually make it.
• How it’s a miracle the sequel got made.
• How a lot of people worked on the movie for close to nothing. They called in a lot of favors.
• What did they film on the first day and did they do something easy on purpose?
• How they only had 37 days to make the movie.
• How long was his first cut compared to the finished film?
• Why the pandemic helped them to create a better ending to the film.
• What Steven Soderbergh did to help get the sequel made.
