BioHazard (Sega Saturn) - Chris Redfield: Part 3
I said I would put Kill Switch up after I finished the DLC chapters for Asura's Wrath but given how Halloween has just been, and after promising myself to do this for so long now, I figured I would release a playthrough video for a horror game at long last.
Biohazard, or Resident Evil as it is otherwise known as internationally, is one of the first horror games I ever played. As a kid, it really got to me in a way nothing else did. One thing that always left me feeling anxious was the item management in the game. Often, and you'll find I do this in these playthrough videos as well, it is a struggle to decide on what to take out, what to use, whether to risk wasting ammo on enemies or risk losing whatever limited herbs remaining by going in balls deep with a melee attack. The thrill of BioHazard came from the unknown it had to offer and with the eeiry corridors of its Mansion setting, this more than applied in every instance I played it.
While the original BioHazard is definitely showing its age, and without a doubt, is vastly outmatched by its later Gamecube remake (now available on Playstation 4/Xbox One), the 1996 game has a soft spot in my heart. The hokey Z-Movie (pardon the pun) production values, simple looping soundtrack and tank-like controls represent a better time in the world of computer games for myself, when not everything had to replicate the experience of a blockbuster movie. Sadly, with its later incarnations, Resident Evil would only ever go in that direction henceforth.
Enough reminiscing though, instead, please enjoy,
