Bionic Commando Rearmed (100%) Part 1
Yeah, this wasn't my favorite. It's not awful and I'm sure if you enjoyed the original NES game this is probably pretty solid. It updates just about everything and modernizes the original while seemingly still staying true the source. What I can say is the music is great and the 2.5D graphics are really nice. I liked the presentation and it is fun trying to find all of the hidden stuff. The writing actually had some laugh out loud moments, which I find to be a pretty rare thing. That's a success. You also get a bunch of weapons and that's neat, they also have upgrades which makes them better too. I liked that a lot. That's honestly the all the good for I can think of. The controls are clunky. The hitboxes on some stuff seems sketchy. There are some optional challenges that can really test you patience. so many collectibles are hidden behind seemingly pixel perfect jumps for no real good reason. There's just no leeway in some of the challenges and that feels a little too mean sometimes. There's also a bunch of blind jumps in the game. You just have to swing out into the abyss and hope that whatever is out there you can react to or land on. It's bad. There are instances where you have to fall onto a moving platform and it's just a blind fall and you have to hope that it's under you, you have absolutely no camera control. That's really frustrating. If the camera was zoomed out just a bit more it would solve most of the blind jump and fall issues. Especially in the final level. That level is way to freaking long. Cool ideas there, but it's like 5 times the length of any other level in the game. And in one particular section your health bar is blocking platforms you need to jump to and swing from. The platforms are folding in and out and the scene is also super dark. It's freaking rough. The bosses were cool the first time, but you refight everything at least twice if not 3 times and that gets a little stale. They change things up each time a bit to try and keep things fresh, but it's still the same gimmicks. I would have liked new bosses instead. The final boss was pretty cool though. Overall, the game just wasn't for me. It's challenging and that's cool, but what made some of the stuff hard was fighting the controls and the lack of camera controls. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
