Part 2. This was an improvement in just about every imaginable way. I actually really like this one. There was still a challenge here, but everything was much smoother. For one the camera was now zoomed out and you can see so much more of the screen. There are still some blind jump sections and that isn't great, but they are much fewer than the previous installment. The controls are also so much more fluid than before. You control like a dream compared to the last game. You can now also jump. You can say that it goes against what the first Bionic Commando set forth, but I honestly don't care. Jumping is great in platformers and it makes the experience that much better. There are actually multiple ways to approach situations and that's really dope. Heck every level can be beaten without jumping. That's really cool. You can also control the length of your grapple, which is really helpful in a lot of situations. It's level based, but has some metroidvania type things happening. There are secrets you can only get on return visits. which definitely power you up nicely. Unlike the first game the overworld stat screen keeps track of what you can collect in the level, which is great. The writing isn't as humorous as the first game, which is a bit of a let down. The story is fine, bad guys are doing stuff and you have to stop them, your team gets lost and you have to try and save them. Honestly, a pretty paint by numbers military story. You do get to fight a giant mecha ape boss a couple of times. That's neat. The level design is freaking great and really varied. They keep you on your toes nicely. Combat is a lot of fun and once again you have a bunch of weapons at you disposal and all of them a re pretty useful. some levels you get to fly choppers and blow things up. Some times you get a nice sniper robot thing and can devastate some bad guys. All pretty cool things to mix in with the standard platforming and swinging. The music is also pretty solid again. Good music goes a long way for enjoyment of a game. Most of the bosses were interesting in some way, the final boss was a pretty big let down and a pretty simple gimmick. Oh yeah, there was auto advancing text and that was truly awful. i want to be able to read at my own pace, there was no need for it either. It's such a silly and foolish thing to add into a game. Otherwise, it was a pretty great experience. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
