Booker DeWitt is a badass.

Ok, I actually picked this title because towards the end of the video, if you aren't paying attention to the subtitles at all, out of the blue you hear your character (Booker DeWitt) say "The name's Booker" so since I pull my thumbnails straight from the video I'm uploading I thought using a shot of a fight between Booker and a motorized patriot seemed appropriate to use.

The topic for this video that I want to use is Gears. Gears are extremely helpful tools that give you the edge in certain scenarios, whether a melee attack makes you briefly invulnerable or vigor traps create temporary ghost weapons. Whatever the gear, they can be helpful... or utterly useless. Take the one from this episode, a hat gear called "Throttle Control". This gear allows you to, and I quote, "Increased throttle and braking control on Sky-Lines" Now, as great as that sounds to some who might love doing combat on the sky-lines, I personally don't think it's worthwhile to have this gear. But I may as well take it, because there's a reason why, and for those who have never played before, you will understand soon why you should always at least take the gear, even if it isn't that great or doesn't seem like you would really want to use it.

You see, gears are like gene tonics, (back in the days of Bioshock and Bioshock 2). They amplify a certain area, like combat or defense. And as you collect them, you are able to switch them out as you please. Example: Let's say you like to use shirt "Coat of Harms", but you aren't close to any enemies to use its added melee ability. But you really need some salts, and remember picking up a different shirt gear called "Blood to Salt", which gives a 40% chance of enemies dropping salts on death. Well, you can go to the gameplay menu (not the pause menu, the one you bring up by pressing the back button on an Xbox 360/PS3 controller) and view your gears. From there, you should find a screen that lists your currently equipped gears. Click on one of the gears and pick whichever one you want to replace it with. And that's it!

Do you like what Bioshock Infinite has done, using Gears? Or do you miss the days of Gene Tonics? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
