Bioshock Infinite: Songs in the Key of Columbia
Songbird Recordings, a short-lived music label that mysteriously vanished in the early 1910s, claimed that it was the sole publisher of songs recorded by the occupants of a city that existed beyond the clouds.
Although the whole notion of this so-called 'Atlantis of the Skies' was clearly an elaborate hoax dreamt up by a marketing genius, there was no denying that it inspired some of the best tunes of the era.
We've unearthed a video commercial for its bestselling album 'Songs In The Key of Columbia' which, remarkably for a piece of film of the era, features synchronised audio. It's believed that this was actually created as a proof of concept for Thomas Edison's improved - but sadly fundamentally flawed - iteration of his revolutionary Kinetophone, released a year after the album's publication.
(Owing to the low-fidelity nature of recording equipment at the time, combined with the inevitable decay that comes with the march of time, we've included the lyrics to enhance your enjoyment of these lost musical treasures.)
