'Bird and Beans' - Playdate Game
"In Bird and Beans, you play as a small bird named Pyoro trying to eat seeds from the sky before they destroy the platform you are standing on. This is a faithful port/remake of the original game, which was a launch title for the Nintendo DSi, originally released outside of Japan in 2009. The DSiWare original itself is also a port of the mini-game "Pyoro" from the first WarioWare title on the Gameboy Advance.
I do not own the original music or gameplay, as those are all copyrighted by Nintendo. I developed this remake purely for fun to learn the Playdate SDK, and am not asking for any money. Instead, you can buy the original game on the 3DS eShop for $1.99 until the shop shuts down in March 2023. If there's enough interest, I may develop a spiritual successor to the game that avoids the use of copyrighted assets.
- All the classic Pyoro gameplay you know and love
- 1-bit remakes of all the original sprites
- Optional crank controls for Pyoro's tongue
- Dynamic soundtrack
- True-to-the-original tongue physics
- High score tracking
- Verified to run great on device!

"Playdate is familiar, but unlike anything you've ever seen. It has a very special black and white screen – not backlit, but super reflective – that looks way more amazing than you're probably imagining.
It also has a peppy little processor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a surprisingly loud loudspeaker. And when you're not using it, the screen doesn't turn off – it becomes a very nice low-power clock!
The Design
Thanks to our friends at Teenage Engineering, Playdate looks incredible. It's colorful. It fits in your pocket. And we worked hard to make sure buttons feel perfectly clicky and that the crank action is silky smooth.
The Crank
Yes, the crank. Is it a gimmick? Nah. Does it charge the Playdate's battery? Nope. Is it really fun? Yes yes yes! It's an analog controller that flips out from the side, allowing you to precisely dial in the action.
The Season
Here's the truly unique bit. Playdate isn't just an empty system. Once you set up your Playdate, you'll start to receive two brand new games... every week. For 12 weeks.
That's 24 free games, in lots of genres. Some are short. Some are long. Will you love them all? Probably not. Will you have a great time trying them? Absolutely."
