The new season of Black Mirror (season 6) has more in common with American Horror Story than the old Black Mirror.

Old Black Mirror was similar to Severance and The Twilight Zone. New Black Mirror is similar to American Horror Story and True Blood, with one mid-tier Black Mirror episode tossed in to throw everyone off the scent.

It feels like they're more into pulp horror fantasy than thought-provoking dystopian sci-fi, so that's what they're making. Gone are the mindbending new and interesting ideas about technology intersecting human tragedy, now we have werewolves, witchcraft and true crime.

It seems like in their heart of hearts they want to make a different show, but they don't want to start a whole new brand, so they're just transitioning Black Mirror into a different kind of show.
