In the 21st century, The Tyrell Corp revolutionized robot evolution by creating Replicants to do all the hard work and get none of the credit. After a nasty little off-world mutiny Replicants were declared illegal on earth. That didn't stop a few fugitive skinjobs from making their way to Los Angeles in November 2019, where they're retired by Blade Runner Rick Deckard and his special ladyfriend replicant, Rachel. The two maybe flee into the winding roads of a verdant land… but we all prefer to leave it at the elevator.

A major EMP causes the Blackout of 2022 leading to crashed markets, critical data loss, food shortages, stalled elevators, and a prohibition on Replicants, who are blamed for the whole mess.

Reclusive science guy Niander Wallace puts an end to starvation with his special brand of frankenfoods free of charge, putting the government in his debt. He comes to collect when he asks for a repeal of the prohibition because he has engineered a new, meek and manageable Replicant. With the help of a very… persuasive visual aid, Wallace, now the owner of the Tyrell Corporation, is manufacturing his perfectly passive Nexus 9 models in the year 2036.

Soon the LAPD is beefing up its Blade Runner unit to retire illegal Replicants. In the course of his duty, Officer K goes in search of long-lost fellow officer Deckard, unearths a secret that could reveal the future of humanity and plunge it into chaos...again.
