BLADE RUNNER 2049 MOVIE REVIEW
This is a great movie for many, but for those who are fans of the original Blade Runner, this movie will both satisfy and amaze as we receive many answers, but also new questions as the universe originally built by Ridley Scott grows and unravels in this even more dystopian future. For the most part the story is strong and interesting enough to watch all the way through, but what shines most is the sound, from the very beginning it's the first thing you notice and its empowered presence holds all the way through the film. The ambient sounds mix in with the score to create a whole new experience of film and sound, the film manages to find a sweet spot where the sound resonated throughout your body but didn't distract from the film's story and visual brilliance. The impact sounds of the high intensity scenes made each bullet shot sound deliberate and powerful, and the scenes that were crafted for build up used very particular tones that would make your whole body tingle... This is definitely a contender for best score, but direction was also equally amazing. The visuals live up to the story as Villeneuve lives up to the same Noir style from the original Blade Runner, but brings his own impact as some scenes lacked colour purposefully other scenes were so color filled you could feel as if your were staring into a neon light. It's that balance of sound and visual artistry that makes this film not just a story, but an unprecedented audio-visual experience! I had a similar experience in Villeneuve's Arrival but nothing of this intensity and precision. Hands down this is the best movie of the year, and so far the best movie I've experienced in my life.
