Community Day has passed, and Blast Burn Charizard is here! Just how good is it? TL;DW he’s not that bad! If you are unaware I did an initial analysis on this attack on GamePress directly proceeding pre-release information Niantic gave the Japanese channel GameWith. 8 hours after posting my analysis, a datamine was done and Niantic presumably nerfed Blast Burn! While the nerf definitely sucks for Charizard, the buff that Blast Burn brings is still swag!

In this video I compare Charizard to other top Fire-type attackers (namely Moltres and Entei) in terms of Comprehensive DPS, the Regice/Registeel raids, and against Blissey. While Charizard doesn’t beat out Moltres in raid performance, it’s arguably much better for gym battling. With the possibility of the Gen 4 Legendary Heatran in the near future, perhaps it’d be wise to hold off on powering up a Moltres and just stick with your Blast Burn Charizard (save your Candy).
