Blaster Master Zero 3 - Using Unchained Effector for movement (Blast Sliding)
Man, Matt Papa really wasn't kidding when he said Blast Counters were super fun in this game. Since I hang out in the Blaster Master Speedruns Discord server quite a bit, I've been learning about the sort of tech that players have been discovering, and this video focuses on one such instance of movement tech: what the community has dubbed "Blast Sliding". (Personally, I'd like to call it "Dash Reflex", but I'm not actually a runner, so what do I know? lol)
Blast Sliding is a technique in which you use combine a Spin Dash and the Reflex Striker Blast Counter together, making the latter slide a much greater distance. I personally believe this behaviour was fully intentional, especially given that Reflex Striker acts very different to its original incarnation in BMZ2.
After learning about this movement technique, I decided to take it upon myself to experiment with the use of the sub weapon, Unchained Effector, to see if it could be useful to speed up movement in Top View dungeons. I show the item description and Jason's explanation via the Receiver at the beginning of this video, but basically if Jason's within the field, enemies are forcefully targeted for a Blast Counter. Enemies that are outside of the field can be targeted with Reflex Striker, while those within the field are targeted by Rushing Attacker, which you see a couple of times as I mess up trying to use it for movement.
As you may be able to see, there's also various instances where I take advantage of the way the enemies react and/or attack in order to use Blast Sliding. I'll provide subtitles explaining a bit more at a later time explaining everything on screen as best as I can.
